Short answer. These are less alike than the price tags suggest. The Slate is a deliberately minimal two-seat truck at $24,950 that ships sooner; the Fathom is a conventional five-seat pickup from an established manufacturer. Slate has published far more real specifications, which is itself worth something when you are trying to decide.

Two seats versus five is the real dividing line
The base Slate is a two-seat truck. It converts to a five-seat SUV, but that is a purchase and a conversion, not a trim level. The Fathom seats five as standard. For anyone carrying passengers regularly this decides it before price enters the conversation.
Slate has published its numbers; Ford has not
Slate has a range, a battery capacity, a power figure, a towing rating, and a bed length. Ford has published none of those for the Fathom. That gap is temporary, but if you are buying in the next twelve months it is the difference between an informed decision and a bet.
Watch out for stale Slate specifications
Slate revised its specifications substantially in June 2026. Many pages still quote the April 2025 reveal figures — 52.7 or 84.3 kWh NMC packs, 150 to 240 miles, 201 hp. Those are superseded. The current production spec is a single 65 kWh LFP pack, 181 hp, and 205 miles.
Neither gets a federal tax credit
The $7,500 federal EV credit was repealed effective September 30, 2025. Slate originally advertised a sub-$20,000 price "after the credit" and dropped that claim. Both of these prices are what you actually pay.
