Gauge is the whole story with a hundred-foot cord. Sixteen-gauge cords at this length drop enough voltage to make a saw labour and a heater underperform; twelve-gauge does not. The lighted end is a small thing that pays for itself the first time you are troubleshooting at dusk and want to know whether the problem is the cord or the tool.
